Activity Update
September brings the beauty of seasonal change to the air. At Montrose Health Center, we are celebrating those beauties and the fun of the season!
Residents will be making Apple Butter in the crock pot. They say, “many hands make light work.” Can you imagine how wonderful that aroma will be? The tasting of the apple butter will be even better!
Our neighbors to the north will be hosting the Tri-State Rodeo, so we will be featuring dress-up days, rodeo crafts, cowboy cool treats, and some looks at Fort Madison’s rodeo history. We always enjoy a visit from Miss Rodeo Iowa and her friends during rodeo season.
A big football rivalry will be on our big screen TV as Iowa & Iowa State teams battle for state bragging rights and the Cy-Hawk trophy! (Go, Cyclones!)
We are planning a patriotic theme during the week of 9/11 and will be wearing Red, White, & Blue to honor those serving and those who have served our country. Later in the month, Keokuk’s National Cemetery Supervisor Brent Inskeep and VA’s Wilbur Quinn will speak about the National Cemetery’s place in our community and its benefit to our Veterans and their families.
Grandparents Day will feature some front porch acoustic music (guitar, fiddle, autoharp) by the granddaughters of one of our residents. Ice cream will also be served. Come on out as we remember and honor the MHC grandparents!
“Grandparents hold our hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever.”
Dietary Update
Hello everyone! I hope y’all had a wonderful Summer. We sure did here at MHC. It flew by way too fast! We have a lot of fun things going on this month. It’s rodeo time! To kick off the rodeo, we will be having a rodeo themed menu. We are having brats, cowboy beans, potato salad and haystacks. I’ll share our cowboy bean recipe below. We will also be having a “send off summer” day. We will be serving cheeseburgers, chips, pasta salad and ice cream. The last week of the month we will switch to our fall/winter menus. We have a lot to look forward to!
Hope you have a fantastic month of September

🍁 Welcome Fall at Montrose Health Center 🍁
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, we welcome the beautiful season of fall here at Montrose Health Center. September marks the beginning of one of the most scenic and heartwarming times of the year — and we’re embracing every moment of it with our residents.
Our team has planned a variety of autumn-inspired activities to help our residents enjoy the season to the fullest. One of the favorites returning this year is our bus rides through the countryside, where residents can admire the vibrant colors of the changing leaves. There’s something truly magical about watching the landscape shift from summer green to brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold — and we love seeing the joy it brings to our residents’ faces.
You’ll still find many of our residents spending countless hours on the front porch, wrapped in cozy sweaters, sipping warm drinks, and enjoying the crisp breeze. Whether they’re watching the squirrels scamper through the yard or simply soaking up the peaceful moments, the porch remains a gathering place for conversation, laughter, and relaxation.
As we move through this season of change, one thing remains constant: the strong bonds and friendships being formed within our community. Residents are continuing to connect with one another in meaningful ways — sharing stories, creating memories, and supporting each other like family.
Our dedicated nursing and CNA staff are also an essential part of this sense of family. They’ve spent time getting to know each resident on a personal level — their routines, preferences, and life stories — which help build not only trust, but genuine connections. The halls of Montrose Health Center are filled with warmth, kindness, and familiarity, and that’s something we’re deeply proud of.
As the leaves turn and the season settles in, we invite you to join us in celebrating all the beauty that fall brings — from colorful drives to cozy moments and heartwarming connections. Thank you for being a part of our Montrose family.
Warmest wishes for a beautiful fall,
The Montrose Health Center Team
