Activity Update

A change of seasons is truly one of the beauties of life in the Midwest and we are celebrating the coming of Spring here at Montrose Health Center. Our natural world is a joy to observe and to study and to experience. Our residents will be learning about the lives and legacies of four different Iowa naturalists this month: Bohumil Shimek, Louis Pammel, Major John Lacey, and Jay “Ding” Darling. Lee County Conservation’s naturalist, Clay Steele, will present the talk on Ding Darling. Clay’s presentations are always a pleasure, and we look forward to his visit.
Later in the month, we plan to take a bus ride to Shimek State Forest and to Lacey-Keosauqua State Park to check on the progress of spring there and to remember the legacy of the historical naturalists of our state. Keep your eyes open for the violets, the dandelions, and the migrating waterfowl along our beautiful Mississippi River. The month of March is all about new life and sunshine and brisk breezes! Enjoy!
Dietary Update
Wow, it’s March already? Time is flying by! We have a lot of fun happening this month. We will start by celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. When I think of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, I immediately think of Green Eggs and Ham. So that’s exactly what we will be doing. We will be serving the residents and staff Green, Eggs and Ham. For St Patrick’s Day we will have Corned Beef and Cabbage. For dessert we will have Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats. We will also have Shamrock Shakes to celebrate the holiday week. We can’t forget about our delicious monthly salad bar that all the residents love! I hope you have a fantastic month of March!
