Activity Update

In his play “Much Ado About Nothing,” William Shakespeare spoke of having “a February face, so full of frost, of storm and cloudiness.”  Our goal in the Montrose Health Center Activity Department is to keep the “February faces” away with lots of meaningful activities and enjoyable recreation for our residents.

Starting strong with Groundhog Day and its hint of spring, we will be making snacks with Nutter Butter cookies and chocolate donuts that look just like groundhogs coming out of their holes.  Our residents will be delighted as they construct these cute edible critters, then munch on them. Punxsutawney Phil will be proud!

Valentine’s Week will be full of music and love and treats! Residents will each have a bag for valentines outside their door. We will make valentines for one another and goody bags for each staff member. Musical afternoons by Noisy Neighbors band, Keosippi Kickers, the great Rick Marshall, and Living Waters Church will fill our hearts all week.  Friday afternoon will be our Valentine Party.

Touching on Black History Month and the beginning of spring training in baseball, we will watch a feature with the greatest pitcher of all time—Satchel Paige. Other sports events this month are the Daytona 500, the Super Bowl, and the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy.  A variety of activities are planned around these events—including an Italian Wine Tasting.

February is a short month packed full. Winter’s Halfway Point is February 3! If that does not put a smile on your February Face, nothing will!

  • 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups of milk chocolate chips (can also use half semi-sweet)

Instructions

Sponsored ContentStir together the whipping cream, milk, vanilla, and chocolate chips in a 5 quart crock pot (if doubling, use a 6-7 quart slow cooker/crock pot).

  1. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours, stirring occasionally with whisk, until mixture is hot and chocolate chips are melted.
  2. Once it is heated through and chocolate is melted, switch the slow cooker to the warm setting. Stir again before serving. (If you have trouble getting the chocolate to melt, turn to high temporarily).

Nursing Update

Dear Families,

January has been a wonderful time filled with warmth, laughter, and lots of love here at Montrose Health Center. While we’ve been enjoying time inside our building, our hearts have been full as we continue creating meaningful moments for our residents.

One recent highlight was our fabulous pizza party! Thanks to our amazing dietary staff, residents enjoyed multiple pizza choices, making it a fun and delicious way to come together. Sharing a meal is always a great way to spread smiles—and a little love, too.

This month also gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate Laura during Activity Professionals Week. We are so thankful for Laura and the care, creativity, and heart she brings to Montrose Health Center every day. The activities she plans are truly made with love and bring joy, engagement, and connection to our residents. We are grateful for everything she does and the positive impact she has on our community.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, we are excited to celebrate love in all its forms—friendship, family, and togetherness. We are planning many fun Valentine’s-themed activities for our residents, including crafts, games, and special moments that remind everyone how loved and valued they are.

Looking ahead, we are also eagerly anticipating the warmer days of spring. We can’t wait to stroll outside, enjoy the sunshine, and sip lemonade together on the front porch—another simple joy we’re excited to share with our residents.

Thank you for being such an important part of our Montrose Health Center family. Your continued support means so much to us, and we look forward to many more heartwarming moments ahead.

With love and appreciation,
Jensen Riley, Director of Nursing
