Activity Update
As summer winds down, our activity department continues to enjoy the sunny days with our residents!
There’s plenty of summer left for bus rides and front porch sitting and a Watermelon Festival party on Parade Day. We plan to make a new watermelon sorbet treat during the festival. A Back-to-School Day is set with sack lunches and games, remembering the anticipation of a fresh school year. Our wonderful music groups will fill the air throughout August. Pet dogs visit during an August afternoon. Lots of craft projects touch our creative sides and will brighten this home.
We have been featuring guest callers for our popular Bingo games. We have an eight-year-old caller who discovered how much he loves to call bingo at a local county fair! If any of our readers would like to call Bingo for us, be sure to contact Laura to join in the fun.
Finish up your summer with joy! We are!

Dietary Update
Beat the Heat: Stay Hydrated This Summer
As temperatures rise, staying hydrated becomes more important than ever. Proper hydration helps regulate body temperature, supports digestion, and keeps your energy levels up throughout the day. Even mild dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and dizziness.
Simple Ways to Stay Hydrated:
- Drink water regularly throughout the day—don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
- Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it often.
- Enjoy water-rich foods such as watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, oranges, and lettuce.
- Limit sugary drinks and beverages with excessive caffeine, which may contribute to dehydration.
- Increase your water intake if you’re working in a warm environment or spending time outdoors.
As members of the Dietary Department, staying hydrated helps you remain alert, energized, and ready to provide excellent care to those we serve. Make hydration a healthy habit this summer and encourage your coworkers and residents to do the same.
Remember: Aim for about 8 cups (64 ounces) of fluids each day, or more if you’re active or exposed to hot weather.
I hope you are staying hydrated and cool out there!

Nursing Update
Hello, MHC Family!
With the hot summer temperatures upon us, we want to remind everyone how important it is to stay hydrated. High heat and humidity can quickly lead to dehydration, making it harder for our bodies to stay healthy and energized.
Why Hydration Matters
Drinking enough water helps:
- Regulate body temperature
- Prevent dizziness and fatigue
- Improve energy and focus
- Support healthy muscles and joints
- Reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses
Hydration Tips
💧 Drink water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🍉 Enjoy water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers, oranges, and strawberries.
☀️ If you’re spending time outdoors, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning whenever possible.
🚫 Limit sugary drinks and excessive caffeine, as they can contribute to dehydration.
Watch for Signs of Dehydration
Be aware of symptoms such as:
- Dry mouth
- Headache
- Dark-colored urine
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Feeling unusually tired
If you notice these signs, drink water right away and let a staff member know if you aren’t feeling well.
As temperatures continue to rise, let’s all do our part to stay safe and healthy. Keep your water bottle nearby, check in on one another, and remember that staying hydrated is one of the easiest ways to protect your health during the summer months.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and have a wonderful week!
