Activity Update
January Newsletter Activity Department Article 2026
By Laura Zechin, Activity Director
The cold days of January without the joyful sparkle of the Christmas season can be quite long! We have a plan to battle the sometimes-bleak days of winter here at Montrose Health Center by looking for someone worse off than we are! We won’t look to our friends who are basking on Florida’s beaches; we will go north to Alaska!
Alaska has so much to explore and to learn about—the history, the wildlife, the songs, and the tales. We will enjoy snowflakes crafts, sourdough bread, Moose word games, Denali armchair exercises, and hot drinks. Our own Jen Humes will share her photos from her own trip to the Last Frontier. The only thing we won’t be doing is building an igloo! Enjoy your January and think Alaska with us!
Dietary Update
Happy New Year’s everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas. On New Year’s Day we will be having a delicious meal to bring in the New Year’s with the residents. We will be having Molasses Glazed Pork Loin, Cheesy Cabbage Casserole, Apple Carrot Slaw, Cornbread and a Lemon Poppyseed Pudding Cake. Below I will share our Apple Carrot Slaw recipe. It’s a new recipe that we can’t wait to try!
Happy New Year’s

Nursing Update
Dear Families and Friends,
The holiday season at Montrose Health Center was truly magical! Our facility was filled with warmth, laughter, and the joyful spirit of Christmas as we decorated every corner together. One of my favorite touches this year was our tree adorned with picture ornaments of our residents – a beautiful reminder of the wonderful individuals who make Montrose such a special place.
Throughout the season, we shared countless joyful moments. The halls were alive with excitement as families came to visit and celebrate together. The sounds of Christmas filled the air thanks to our delightful carolers, who sang through the halls and spread holiday cheer to everyone.
Looking ahead to the New Year, our vision remains steadfast: to continue providing a warm, homelike environment where families can gather, celebrate life, and create cherished memories together. Our dedicated staff is excited and inspired to spend another year with our residents, making every day meaningful and filled with care.
From all of us at Montrose Health Center, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year, and we look forward to sharing many more special moments with our extended Montrose family!
Warm regards,
Jensen Riley
