The holiday season brings into focus the important issues of life—thankful hearts, and giving to others, and family ties.  Last month, we created opportunities for our residents to be givers. Montrose Health Center had a food drive. During bingo, residents were able to earn food items to donate to that.  Staff and family joined in with us to make a generous donation to God’s Way Christian Center’s work with those in need.  In addition, our residents joined our volunteer Ann Hodges to fill twenty-one Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for children all over the world. Ann’s church promised to pay the shipping fee and to match us shoebox for shoebox.  We are making a difference close to home and all over the world. Our residents love that they are a part of that effort.

This month, we plan to focus on thankfulness. Our craft time will feature Thankful Leaves and Autumn Paper Chains to attest to the many blessings we are grateful to have. On ‘I Love to Write Day,” we plan to remember and write about the past. So often those memories help us appreciate all the good in our lives. We just need time to remember.

Family connections are another aspect of thankfulness. As family and friends visit our residents during the holiday season, thankfulness is easy to see on each face. We encourage families to come and to savor the wonderful moments with their loved ones. Come to chat or to be alongside your loved one for an activity. You are always welcome here.

Be thankful and enjoy this meaningful time of the year.
