March Newsletter Activity Department Article 2024

The gusty winds of March are upon us, chasing away the last remnants of winter days.  March is about all things new:  the new spring season, new plants popping out in nature, new baby birds and animals, new friends, learning new skills, acquiring new knowledge, and the newness of life in the Easter celebration.

The Activity Department has built the freshness March into our calendar.

New friends can whet our appetites to try something new. A lady who is a plastic canvas crafter now lives with us, encouraging others to give it a try.  We will!  Other new craft projects will keep our artistic sides alive and well this month.

Donuts with Dispatchers on March18 will introduce some of our Lee County Emergency personnel to our residents.  Meeting over donuts for the first time beats meeting during a crisis hands down. Bringing some of these vital community members to visit our group provides a good chance for appreciation of their work.

MHC staff and residents will try a new March Madness twist. This March, we plan to follow the Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament instead of the Men’s.  This has been a season of a lifetime for the Iowa Hawkeyes Women’s team, serving to highlight women’s athletics throughout the nation. Women’s basketball will be our MHC bracket to follow!

The traditional and historic will also balance our new events, too.

Diane Kruse will come to talk about her book on Lee County Rural Schools.  Many of our residents taught at or attended these schools. We look forward to welcoming Diane in to remind us of their value in our county’s foundation.

Montrose Library is bringing in Linda McCann to speak about Rosie the Riveter in Iowa.  Those women truly knew the challenge of learning something new! We plan to join our community with an MHC group for the event.

Traditional holidays are landmarks in our lives. A Friday St. Patrick’s Party with staff and residents should provide some fun food and drinks and a little Irish piano tunes to celebrate that bit of Irish in all of us.

March 30 will feature the Community Easter Egg Giveaway for children with a big raffle and filled eggs and a bake sale. The Easter Bunny has promised to make a visit! Plan to bring your children and grandchildren to join us on that Saturday morning at 10:00am. Take a picture with the Easter Bunny with a true Iowa backdrop! Happy Easter!

Yes, celebrate Spring with our residents at Montrose Health Center and put on that sunny smile!
